Fitness instructor to the stars, Namrata Purohit shares everything soon-to-be-married brides need to remember before the wedding…
It’s a universally accepted fact that one of the primary thoughts is that most brides dedicate a large portion of their time and efforts to getting fit and in shape for D-Day. The pressure of looking picture-perfect for the artfully taken photographs that would inevitably make a home on their Instagram feeds is enough for them to resort to extreme, and often harmful, measures to get ‘into shape’.
“Many brides turn to drastic diets or trendy workouts, but focusing on sustainable practices that balance exercise, nutrition, and sleep is crucial,” says Namrata Purohit, fitness instructor to stars like Sara Ali Khan and Janhvi Kapoor (among others!).
Namrata, a pioneer in popularising pilates for fitness in the country, advises brides to listen to their bodies and not fall for fads. Her core philosophy? KISSS! “Keep it safe, simple and smart,” she says, “Eat a small, healthy bite before events to avoid cravings and overindulging. Select key workout days and incorporate short, effective workouts to stay consistent despite a busy schedule but don’t forget to allow yourself to enjoy special moments without guilt. If you indulge, embrace it and get back on track the next day. The key is to maintain a routine that fits your commitments while keeping stress levels low.”
The fitness expert shares her thoughts on the errors brides make when thinking about getting fit for the big day. “Every body type and goal is different, so it’s important to avoid one-size-fits-all programs that may not suit individual needs.”
According to her, these are the three mistakes that should be avoided at all costs during the run-up to the wedding…
One of the most common misconceptions, when it comes to getting fit (regardless of whether you’re getting married or not) is that eating less would somehow help you lose weight. “ Under-eating to lose weight quickly can lead to fatigue and a lack of essential nutrients, so eating well and enough is important to look healthy and fresh.”
Not sleeping enough can bring a host of problems to the table and hamper your efforts. “Neglecting sleep can hinder fitness progress, as adequate rest is vital for recovery and overall well-being,” she advises.
A sustainable fitness routine is key to a healthy lifestyle. “Starting a fitness regime too late can result in rushed, ineffective efforts, so beginning well in advance is key,” she says, “Over-training without proper rest can cause burnout and injuries. By avoiding these mistakes and focusing on a balanced, sustainable approach, brides can achieve their fitness goals effectively and feel their best on the big day.”
