The Fashion Design Council Of India (FDCI) just co-hosted a beautiful fashion show with the Tamana Foundation, which not only had an impressive designer lineup but also had students of the non-profit walk the ramp as a symbol of inclusivity. The show, named ‘Walking Tall, Walking for Hope, Walking for Inclusion’ was a breath of fresh air. Apart from feeding into our insatiable thirst for impeccable fashion, the show gave us a lot of wholesome moments.

Tamana is a non-profit organisation for multiple challenged and autistic individuals. The founder, Padmabhushan and Padma Shri awardee, Mrs Shayama Chona welcomed everyone and introduced the chief guest of the event, Minister of Civil Aviation, Mr Shri Rammohan Naidu Kinjarapu, who also happened to be one of her students when she was the principal at the Delhi Public School. He told cute anecdotes about the founder from his school days. In addition, he also addressed the beautiful evening that it was going to be. “We’re all going to walk out as better versions of ourselves,” he added. We couldn’t help smiling when a student of the foundation opened the show with a singing performance. The designer lineup included Payal Pratap, Payal Jain, Anju Modi and Namrata Joshipura.

The show started with Payal Pratap, whose pieces included lots of white, black, intricate multicoloured embroidery, contemporary silhouettes and pops of red. One embroidered white sari with a cape really stood out.

Anju Modi FDCI Tamana fashion show 2024

We then moved on to Anju Modi’s showcase, which included two very strong Indian looks in white, in a collection mostly dominated by skirts and shift dresses in black, greens and blues. Like all the designers at tonight’s show, Anju Modi walked the ramp with a student from the Tamana Foundation.

The third showcase was that of Namrata Joshipura, and all her looks were done in black and gold. The collection featured corsets, draped skirts, contemporary pre-draped saris, and lots of fringes.

Payal Jain FDCI Tamana fashion show 2024

The last showcase of the evening was Payal Jain’s, and the collection was an homage to the maximalist bohemian aesthetic. The looks included long skirts, lots of colours, denim jackets and lots of print (mainly floral).

The show, which was about “walking for inclusion”, ended with all the students of the Tamana Foundation walking the runway. In a truly wholesome moment, the students of the foundation took over the runway as one of the students was singing different songs in the background.

The night ended with the woman of the hour, Tamana Chona taking the runway, and taking a bow. Later, Mr Sunil Sethi, the Chairman of the FDCI expressed gratitude for Tamana.

This show wasn’t as much about fashion as it was about hope, inclusivity and positivity. This was one show we’re going to remember for a long time.
