The veteran designer’s ‘Sailing Bride 2.0’ sought to transport us to a luxurious yacht wedding…
The runway for Monisha Jaising’s showcase at the FDCI X Lakmé Fashion Week 2024 was built to emulate a yacht deck. The designer wanted to sweep us off to a luxurious yacht after all. After nearly a decade, Monisha Jaising was revisiting her collection ‘Sailing Bride’, reimagining the flowing kaftans and a sea of chiffon, silk, and organza with a series of elevated ensembles that could flow from lazy afternoons on the deck to glamorous evening affairs. Aboard a yacht, of course.
“With ‘Sailing Bride 2.0’, I wanted to capture the essence of a lifestyle that’s both elegant and adventurous,” said the designer in a recent interview with Manifest, “This collection reflects the freedom of being on the open water, where each piece is designed to flow effortlessly from casual daytime moments to more refined evening gatherings. It’s about embracing a sense of ease and sophistication while staying connected to the beauty of nature and the luxurious calm that sailing brings.”
Among the easy-to-wear gowns and co-ord sets, the designer presented a variety of ‘his’ and ‘hers’ ensembles that are perfect for you if you’re that couple. You know, the one that coordinates outfits and posts cutesy selfies on the ‘Gram?
The show was opened by Shalini Passi and closed by Riddhima Sahni, the stars of Netflix’s upcoming reality show Fabulous Lives Vs Bollywood Wives.
Sheer kurtis adorned with intricate embroidery, sharara sets, tiered lehengas and saris, kaftans, and gowns rendered in the designer’s signature high-octane glam made for a collection that should be bookmarked if you’re thinking of planning a destination wedding.
“I’ve worked with fabrics like silk, satin, and chiffon to create pieces that effortlessly transition from sun-soaked lounging to chic evening gatherings,” said the designer, “For formal occasions, my signature co-ord sets offer a modern alternative to traditional gowns, featuring cropped tops with high-waisted skirts adorned with sequins, as well as embellished bralettes paired with wide-leg pants. These bold, shimmering looks are perfect for making a statement at evening events.”
